Jay M. Lonero

Partner

Jay Lonero joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1996. The focus of his practice is insurance coverage and coverage litigation involving general liability insurance, marine insurance, commercial property insurance, and homeowners insurance. He has significant experience in class action litigation, admiralty and maritime law, automobile liability litigation, energy matters, and environmental and toxic torts.

Mr. Lonero has handled numerous cases involving personal injury and death, property damage, marine casualties, business interruption, and oilfield remediation. He has defended insurers in hundreds of cases involving commercial property and homeowners claims arising out of major losses, including complex mass joinder and class action litigation. He also has significant experience litigating False Claims Act or qui tam matters regarding allegedly fraudulent claims against the government.

Mr. Lonero attended Louisiana State University on a Chancellor’s Scholarship and graduated in 1987. He then graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1990, where he served as an officer of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and was a member of the Flory Trial Club. Following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Marcel Livaudais, Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana before beginning his law practice.
